In late 2021, Ouriginal was acquired by Turnitin in an effort to better adapt to and keep pace with the ever changing academic integrity trends and to develop solutions that support educators and students around the globe. Over the past several months, the two companies have worked to integrate their products in order to provide a bigger and better suite of solutions to customers and to provide a seamless transition to their new offering, Turnitin Similarity.

What does this mean for MSU?

The transition to the new academic integrity solution will require a change in cloud servers which means that we will be moving from Ouriginal to Turnitin Similarity before the end of 2022. For the Summer 2022 term, beginning with Maymester, both products will be available for use in Canvas and faculty now have access to both options (Ouriginal and Turnitin) in their courses. Both solutions may be used for the entire summer term, however, once the term is completed, Ouriginal will be turned off and no longer available in Canvas. Please note that faculty will have access to their Ouriginal reports until the end of the year. For the Fall 2022 term, Turnitin Similarity will be the only academic integrity offering available for use in Canvas courses. Faculty will need to connect any assignments that require plagiarism review to Turnitin for the Fall 2022 term.

  • Maymester 2022 - Ouriginal and Turnitin Similarity are both available
  • Summer 2022 - Ouriginal and Turnitin Similarity are both available
  • August 8th - Only Turnitin Similarity will be available.
Important Note: To prepare for the Fall 2022 semester, all assignments using a using a plagiarism checker should be reviewed and have the settings verified. Verify that Turnitin is the Plagiarism tool selected for use under Plagiarism Review for each assignment. Verify which settings you would like to use with Turnitin under that. Save any changes.
