Downloading MATLAB R2024b
Download links are available on the MATLAB service page. Users will be given the option to either download the software or reserve media for pickup at the Service Desk in 108 Allen Hall.
Installing MATLAB R2024b
1. Follow the instructions based on your media type:
If using the MATLAB USB drive: Insert the MATLAB USB drive.
If using the download: Unzip the downloaded zip file.
2. Open a terminal window and navigate to the drive or unzipped folder (if using the download).
3. Type sudo ./install
, type your sudo password, then press Enter.
If you don't have sudo access or don't want to run the install as sudo, you will need to choose an installation location for which your user account has access later on in the process.
4. In the MATLAB Installer window, select the Advanced Options dropdown in the top right, then select I have a File installation Key.
NOTE: On Ubuntu (and possibly other distros using the GNOME desktop environment by default), there may be a problem with an inability to click the file installation key method in the dropdown or enter in a file installation key. This is a known bug.
If you encounter this bug, please try the following solutions:
5. In the license agreement window, select Yes to accept the terms of the license agreement, then click Next.
6. Enter the file installation key located in the file_installation_key.txt file in the unzipped MATLAB_R2024b_Linux folder, or on the MATLAB USB drive, then click Next.

7. In the licensing window, click Browse, navigate to and select the license.lic file in the unzipped MATLAB_R2024b_Linux folder, or on the MATLAB USB drive, then click Next.
8. Leave the default installation folder location or change it, if needed, then click Next. (If you did not run the installer with sudo permissions in step 3, you will need to select a folder for which your user account has access.)
9. Leave the default product selections or change them, as needed, then click Next.
10. Choose your desired option to create symbolic links to MATLAB scripts in the specified folder and for optionally sending user experience data to MathWorks, then click Next.
11. Click Begin Install.
12. Install additional components (compiler, Java JDK, etc.), if prompted.
13. In the Installation Complete window, review the page for any additional software you may need, then click Close.
14. Once installation is complete, open a terminal window, then launch matlab from the bin folder (or other location) in which you installed MATLAB. For example, if you installed MATLAB R2024b in the default installation folder, then you would type: /usr/local/MATLAB/R2024b/bin/matlab
