How to use WAS (was.msstate.edu) to access network files

Web Accessible Storage (WAS) is a website that is used to access your I & J / Personal & Common drives while off campus or while not using an MSU, domain-joined computer.

Accessing and using WAS

1. If you are off campus, you will first need to connect to the MSU VPN. Only current students, employees, and affiliates who have been granted access are able to use the MSU VPN.

2. Go to was.msstate.edu

3. Log in with your NetID and NetPassword, then authenticate with Duo, if prompted.

4. Once you have logged into WAS you will see a similar image as below. Your Common folder is the J drive and the folder with your NetID is your I drive/Personal drive.

5. You will need to double-click on either your Common folder or the NetID folder to browse the content. You can view files in the browser by selecting the file and choosing View. (NOTE: Larger files will take longer to preview.) In order to Edit a file, you will first need to Download the file. You can then edit the file on your computer and when you are done, upload the file back to the folder on WAS. In order to download a file, first select the file (you can only select one file at a time) and then click Download. It will download the file to your Downloads folder.

6. To upload a file to WAS, first open the folder that you want to upload to, click on Transfer, and then Upload. You can drag and drop multiple files to that window from your computer to upload. Keep in mind that if you are uploading files that you downloaded from WAS you will need to have Overwrite existing file(s) checked.

Alternatively, you can click on Add Files - this will open a Windows Explorer window. Browse to the folder containing the files that you need to upload and select them (highlight them). You can select multiple files, then click Open.

7. To start the Upload click Start Upload. Once it is finished the status will change to 100%.

8. When you have completed all tasks, please log out of WAS for security purposes.
