Reflective PROX Reader Operation

A Reflective PROX Card Reader is battery powered and goes into a sleep mode when not in use. When a card is presented properly and detected, the reader is turned on. Because the reader is not constantly on, the presentation of the card for activation is essential in order for the Reflective PROX Card Reader to function effectively.

The trick to getting good card reads is to present the card perpendicular to the “eye” moving it from far away to close. A card has the ability to be read in a 1 to 4 inch range. The “eye” sends out a beam that is reflected off the sensor in the card, which wakes up the sleeping reader, allowing the card to be read. The read time will typically be 300 milliseconds. If the card is swiped in front of the reader in an up and down motion, the “eye” may not be able to get a good, consistent read. Again, for a good card read, present the card perpendicular to the “eye” moving it from far away to close.
