If your computer is domain joined or if you've already configured the DNS settings, see the next section for how to map your drives.
Configuring DNS Settings for Non-Domain Joined Computers
If you are not in the AD domain, you can still manually map your network drives, you just need to configure some DNS settings first. You will have to be on campus in order to manually map your network drives.
1. Go to Settings. Click Network & Internet.
2. Click Ethernet on the left hand side. Click Change adapter options on the right hand side.
3. Right click on Ethernet and go to Properties.
4. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4). Click Properties.
5. Click on the Advanced button.
6. In the Advanced TCP/IP settings window click DNS. Select Append these DNS suffixes.
7. To add the DNS settings:
a. Click Add.
b. Type the Domain suffix: ad.msstate.edu.
c. Click Add.
8. Click OK, then OK, then Close.
Mapping Network Drives
Mapping the J Drive
1. First open a window for File Explorer (You can hold down the Windows Key + ‘e’). Now under the Home tab, click on Easy Access. Now click on Map as Drive.
2. You will see a window pop up for Map Network Drive. Click on the Drive letter and choose J.
NOTE: If the letter J is unavailable, that means that you have another device assigned to it. You can either unplug your devices (your flash drive, phone, etc) and reboot your computer to get the J drive or just use another drive letter.
3. Next click in the text field beside Folder. Type in the following:
\\ad.msstate.edu\common
Also make sure that the checkbox beside Reconnect at sign-in is checked. Now click Finish.
Mapping the I Drive
1. First open a window for File Explorer. (You can hold down the Windows Key + ‘e’) Now under the Home tab, click on Easy Access. Now click on Map as Drive.
2. You will see a window pop up for Map Network Drive. Click on the Drive letter and choose I. (If the letter I is unavailable that means that you have another device assigned to it. You can either unplug your devices (your flash drive, phone, etc) and reboot your computer to get the I drive or just use another drive letter.)
3. Next click in the text field beside Folder. Type in the following:
\\ad.msstate.edu\home\netid
(replace with your netid)
Also make sure that the checkbox beside Reconnect at sign-in is checked. Now click Finish.
