Installing and activating Camtasia

Powerful, yet easy-to-use, Camtasia helps you create professional videos without having to be a video pro. Easily record your on-screen activity or import HD camera video, customize and edit content and share your videos with viewers on nearly any device.

The university has a site license for Camtasia that allows it to be installed on any university-owned computer when used for teaching or non-commercial purposes. In addition, student, faculty and staff home use on personal equipment is included at no additional cost.

Windows - Installing/Activating Camtasia

1. Download the Camtasia2024Window.zip file from the link above, then unzip the file.

2. Double-click the installcamtasia.bat file, then click Allow or Run, if prompted.

3. Wait for the installation to complete, click Allow or Continue at any prompts.

4. Open Camtasia from your start menu; it should be licensed and ready to use.

 


macOS - Installing/Activating Camtasia

1. Download the Camtasia2024macOS.zip file from the link above, then unzip the file.

2. Double-click the InstallCamtasia.dmg file, accept the agreement, then drag the Camtasia application to the Applications folder when prompted.

3. In the unzipped folder from step 1, double-click the Activate Camtasia 2024 file, allowing any prompts for access. Note: If your computer warns you that it can't open the file because it is untrusted, right-click on the file, then click Open in the menu. This should allow you to ignore the error and open the file anyway.

4. Open Camtasia from your Applications folder; it should be licensed and ready to use. 

 

macOS - Alternate activation method

If you followed the steps above, but, when you run Camtasia, it prompts you to sign in or create an account before you're able to use the program, please try manually adding the license file using the steps below.

1. If Camtasia is still open, click Quit or right click on the Camtasia icon in your dock, then click Quit

2. In the unzipped folder from Step 1 in the previous section, right click on the LicenseKey file, then click Copy.

3. Open Finder, click Go at the top of the screen in the menu bar, then click Shared. If Shared is not an available option for you to choose, click Go to folder... instead, type /Users/Shared , then press enter/return on your keyboard to open the folder. 

4. Open the TechSmith folder. If you do not see that folder, click File at the top in the menu bar, click New Folder, name it TechSmith, then open it.

5. Open the Camtasia folder. If you do not see that folder, click File at the top in the menu bar, click New Folder, name it Camtasia, then open it.

6. Click Edit at the top in the menu bar, then click Paste to paste the LicenseKey file here that you copied from step 2. 

7. Try running Camtasia again, and it should be licensed and ready to use.
