Microsoft Office 365 Transition Information and Timeline

December 3rd, 2018, the Executive Cabinet approved an upgrade of the Mississippi State University employee email system to Microsoft Office 365 (Office 365).  At the end of January 2019, the upgrade to Office 365 will begin with an expected completion of early summer 2019.  Office 365 offers a more secure environment with timely updates and enhancements, strong spam prevention, Advanced Threat Protection (ATP), and Data Loss Prevention (DLP).  In addition, we are pleased to announce that OneDrive and the Office Online apps which consist of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Sway are included with this upgrade.  Once upgraded, users will be able to access these services by going to the following website:

In early January 2019, an ITS representative will begin contacting each department’s point of contact to schedule and confirm the department’s upgrade date and provide upgrade details.  Once a unit’s schedule has been confirmed, personnel in each unit will receive emails detailing the upcoming upgrade.

In MSU’s Office 365 environment, two-factor authentication (2FA) will be required to access your email account via the desktop, mobile and web clients.  Outlook on the web, formerly known as OWA, can be accessed at

A benefit of moving to the Microsoft Office 365 environment is that MSU will receive timely updates to our email environment.  Because MSU will be on the latest version of Office 365, MSU must maintain current versions of operating systems on desktop computers and mobile devices.  Below are the current preferred configurations of the Office 365 environment:
