Canvas Admin Banner Navigation and Financial Query Course

In an effort to provide all potential Administrative Banner users with the proper training needed to gain access to specific processes in Admin Banner, ITS is now offering the Admin Banner Navigation and Financial Query Class as a self-enrollment course in Canvas. This Self Enroll Employee class is an external course and is not available for sign-up via Banner Registration. This course is only available to MSU administrators and staff (intermittent workers, student workers and graduate assistants will only be allowed to take this training if their current job/position requires an Admin Banner Production account). The course is located in the portal under Canvas Course Self Enrollment for Employees. Upon completion of enrollment in an external course, refresh the browser and access external classes via the Canvas Courses card. The Canvas Administrative Banner Navigation and Financial Query Course is a self-paced course containing a series of videos and documents designed to help users learn the basics of accessing and using BANNER. It is highly recommended that the Admin Banner Production (not myBanner) account is setup prior to enrolling in this course.

Is Admin Banner training required to setup an Administrative Banner Production account?

  • No. Attending and completing Banner training is only REQUIRED when specific access is needed to process Requisitions, Payroll, Leave and/or Invoice (regular and direct pay) documents.

Who should take this course?

  • Employees who have an Admin Banner account with access that does not require training but want to learn how to navigate in Banner properly
  • Employees who have an Admin Banner account and need access that requires additional training*
  • Employees who do not have an Admin Banner account but are in a job/position that needs access that requires training*
  • Employees who miss this class when it is offered in-person in the monthly training rotation but do not need to attend other Admin Banner classes
  • Employees who miss this class when it is offered in-person in the monthly training rotation and need to attend other Admin Banner classes for additional access*

*Admin Banner access that requires completion of Banner training classes: Requisitions, Payroll, Leave and/or Invoice Processing

The Navigation and Financial Query Class is a one-time prerequisite (requirement) for all other Admin Banner Classes offered via Canvas and/or in-person:

  • Employees who are self-enrolled in the CANVAS Admin Banner Navigation & Financial Query Course as a requirement to attend other Banner training classes have the responsibility to complete the course before the start date of the next required class (online or in-person).
  • Employees who are self-enrolled for the CANVAS Admin Banner Navigation & Financial Query Course as a requirement to attend other Banner training classes but DO NOT complete this course will be canceled out of any current registration(s) for other Admin Banner courses (online or in-person).

Please note that the online option does not replace the opportunity to attend this class in-person. Employees are strongly encouraged to attend Banner classes in person as their schedule allows.
