Canvas: Integrating your Google Drive account with Canvas

Many instructors use Google Drive to store content for their Canvas courses. If students have not authorized their MSU Google Drive account with Canvas, they may receive a message stating they are "Unauthorized" and will be unable to view content. In order to view this content, students will need to integrate their MSU Google Drive account with Canvas using the steps below.

1. Go to

2. On the maroon global navigation menu on the left, click the Account icon.

3. Click Settings.

4. In the Registered Services section, click on Google Drive under Other Services.

5. Click Authorize Google Drive Access.

6. Enter your email address. Note: If you're redirected to the MSU login page, enter in your credentials, then log in as normal.

7. Click Allow.

8. Your Google Drive account should now authorized and Google Drive will appear under Registered Services in Canvas. If you have authorized your Google account correctly, you should not get a permission error when trying to access files stored in Google.

Additional troubleshooting steps

If you are still unable to access the files you need in your course, or the authorization was not successful, please perform the following steps.

1. Sign completely out of Canvas.

2. If you are signed in to your browser with any personal Google accounts, sign out of the accounts completely.

3. Clear the cache and cookies in your web browser.

4. Try following the steps again from the first section.

Please contact the ITS Service Desk if you continue to experience any issues.
